He is a graduate of Baylor University and Southwestern Seminary in Texas, with a doctorate from New Orleans Seminary. He has served as a pastor in Louisiana, the Cayman Islands, and Texas. He and his wife, Diane, have lived in Austin for over two decades. They have two adult sons. He enjoys scuba diving, fly fishing, and puttering around his woodworking shop.
